Reflection Friday: April Edition

April 30, 2021   |   Julie Diamond

Reflection is an essential ingredient for growth, whether personal or professional, and it’s a key component of the Power² Leaderlab programs.

That’s why we’re excited to start a new monthly feature here called Reflection Fridays, at the suggestion of one of our brilliant graduates.

We always say, “experience is the best teacher,” but only if you are able to stop and reflect back on your experience; that’s where the true learning and growth can happen. Experience without reflection can be learning lost; or even worse, it can teach us the wrong lessons. That’s why reflection is so vital. It helps us parse out the learning in events and, consequently, increases our self-awareness.

It’s easy to lose sight of this in today’s increasingly on-demand, high-pressure world, but good leaders must have self-awareness; it’s more important than ever. Now’s the time to invest in yourself through regular, thoughtful self-reflection. Doing this takes time and practice, so we want to help.

On the last Friday of every month, we’ll share a Reflection Friday prompt, encouraging you to spend some time reflecting on the previous week or month – things you learned, challenges you surmounted, or didn’t – and preparing for the period ahead.

We’ll offer different reflection prompts each month to help you in your reflection practice, so let’s jump in with:

Reflection Friday Prompt #1

  • As the world starts to open back up, what habits have worked for you during this difficult year, that you don’t want to lose?
  • Consider 3-5 things you did this last year that really served you?
  • What benefit did they provide?
  • How will you plan to continue them, now that things are starting to open up?
  • What could get in the way of continuing them, and how will you solve for that potential obstacle?

If you feel so inclined, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to email us at [email protected], or tag us on LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter.
